Project Progress Page!
AQWorlds is expanding and improving rapidly. We have so many big projects going on alongside our weekly updates even we have a hard time keeping track of their progress. So we have created this page for both the players and the team so that we can see the progress of major projects. Be sure to read the design notes for the most recent news on what is happening this moment!

Stats

Our biggest and most highly anticipated project is Stats. We are adding Strength, Intelligence, Endurance, Wisdom, Luck and Dexterity into the game. Stats may seem simple, but it changes everything from your character's power, damage, speed, item drops, and enhancements to how your class skills work. Once stats are finished, we will begin working on level specific content—this means raising the level cap (yaay!) and begin building new full classes (with skills) under the new combat system. This project required 100 levels of power to be mapped out and the entire combat system to be gutted and reprogrammed, introducing many improvements... and several brand new categories of bugs! (... and we will need your help squishing them!) Minimal has been spending the majority of his time on this challenging project.

More Stuff

  • Bought 3 new servers and are in the process of setting up a special testing server just for stats. First we will have staff testing, and then we will invite members to help test.
  • For live events and wars, we need to build special type of "scaling" monster. The stronger you are, the stronger the monster will be!

Housing - Updated + Phase 3 (10/8/09)

Phase #1
The initial release of housing allowed players to buy their own homes and customize them with 120 items.

Phase #2
Phase #2 is aimed at improving the interface to place and manage items, and introduce the first interactive objects. There will be an "Edit Mode" so players can move furniture then turn it off when they wish to walk around their home normally. It will also solve the issue with not being able to walk on floor objects.

Phase #3
We are currently working on item stacking—this means you will be able to have more than just 1 particular item! This update affects ALL items in the game, not just housing. This means we could potentially use permanent items as quest items allowing you to collect 5/8 items, logout, come back later and continue your quest! Zhoom is on the case; an ETA has not been set yet, but we are just about half way there!

  • Brand new house models and housing items are have been added since Phase #1. There are now over 200 items that can be used to decorate your humble abode—check the design notes for recent housing releases!
  • New housing items, house models, and interfaces are on the way.

MechQuest ArtBook

The MechQuest Art Book goes on sale Friday, July 10th. Created here at the lab by Johnny Atomic, Aisha, Warlic, Artix, Thyton, J6, Ai No Miko, and the rest of our silly creative team -- it was four months of Mecha art craziness with the most successful ending we could have ever dreamed of. Our first art book is one of the highest quality artbooks we have ever seen... it is easy to tell how hard everyone worked on it to make it the best! It is currently being sent to J!nx who will contact us when it is ready.

PvP - Updated (10/08/09)

The highly anticipated Player vs Player Combat will allow players to battle each other. I set this at 40% because actually battling other characters is the difference between changing a TRUE/FALSE statement on the server. The two prerequisites for PvP are Stats and a real time positioning system—basically, a seamless background much larger than the game’s current frames. Minimal has been working on both projects, so next time you see him, make sure to thank him for all his hard work!

Guilds

We would like guilds to be more interesting than just a group of players in AQWorlds. So we were thinking that if players owned houses… then a Guild should own a city! We have been talking about this for a while. The concept of guild members working together to level up their own town and depending on if they are PvP-flagged to wage war against other Guilds cities is really interesting! This will be Zhoom's next project after housing is complete.

Formerly known as: Import your Character Data
This is a very ambitious project with the goal of linking all of your characters and achievements across all games and mini-games. The possibilities are truly endless. We have taken the first step by creating an AE games portal—you can check out at portal.battleon.com!

World Map

Cysero designed the continent when we were mapping out DragonFable. J6 redrew and colored it during his recent visit to the Lab. Llussion has coded the map, allowing you to zoom into different regions. The world is constantly expanding, so check the map weekly to see if any new zones have been uncovered!

Reputation

Zhoom completed the reputation system a while ago. What is reputation? Different organizations around the game will look at you differently, depending on your reputation with them. You raise reputation by doing special quests in certain zones; of the time being, you can currently gain Dwarfhold, Good, Evil, and Yokai rep. Gaining more rep will allow you to unlock special zones and awesome weapons and armors!

Achievements & Book of Lore

Phase #1
The existing quests were added to the Book of Lore. Players can now check their progress to see if they are caught up on the storyline. The achievement section is a collection of badges that your character unlocks for acomplishing challenging feats!

Phase #2
We created an achievement pop up and sound that we need to add around the game when you unlock an achievement. New achievements, including many of the great suggestions on the forums, need to be added. You may be surprised to know the Book of Lore is infinitely expandable. (We are going to add tabs for subsections as it grows) Phase #2 will probably happen in several parts were we release little bits of it at a time while working on other releases.
